Day 30: It’s What We Do

Last year the Significant Special Needs (SSN) group at Castle View applied for a grant to construct a community garden on campus for their students to maintain. They were not awarded the grant.

Enter Mosaic and Michael Schneider

Fast-forward six months and several Mosaic students are designing the CV Unity Garden. They are planning and building in collaboration with our SSN students … and they are committed, 100%.

Today Michael was exceptionally bold. 🙂 He took our Unity Garden students on a field trip (signed forms and all) to the Community Garden at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital, which is literally down the street from CV.

CVHS to hospital

Their trip didn’t go unnoticed:

I salute you, Mr. Schneider. I only wish we could have some sort of standing field trip form for Mosaic students and teachers. I can’t wait to take students a few miles further to Castlewood Canyon to explore. (I have an annual parking pass if that helps.)

We’re breaking down barriers … one idea, one question, one project at a time.

Like Commander Armstrong said, “One small step…”

And there’s also this gem, which is what happens when a teacher asks students what they’re up to outside of school. Then, upon hearing their answers, says, “Teach me.”
